Exhaust Choice

Would like other's opinions. Maybe you have heard the Arrow or Shift Tech exhaust.

1. Akrapovic
2. Shift Tech CF
3. Arrow Race-Tech CF

I am going to eliminate the Cat since my state has no emmisions for bikes. Has anyone heard the last 2 on an 821?

My opinion as follows as applied to the Hyper 821's exhaust from the listed manufacturers.

1 - Expensive for an exhaust that doesn't do much for the look imo. Not sure on power gains here.
2 - Best looking carbon fiber Ive seen; with that said it was too loud for my tastes (I actually had one on my bike).
3 - Unsure, I am unfamiliar.

How much louder than the oem exhaust would you say for the shift tech?

everyone has their taste but I have to ask - how loud do you want to be? why?

I already have to wear earplugs even for around town and on one camping trip a child was overwhelmed by the noise (not in a good way). It is a loud bike - one of my winter projects will be to modify a stock exhaust for a milder sound.

Also why remove the cat -you gain little from that - if anything (and with the loss of back pressure you may lose performance). Pollution laws or not - it is there for a reason - and not cuz the gummint won't let me be.

Not looking for loud. Looking for a deeper sound. The cat robs the bike of linear power. Removing it makes it smoother

Where did you hear that? Got a dyno chart from an independent source? Sounds like complete nonsense to me.

Ducati spent quite a bit of effort making sure that the stock system works well and meets EPA requirements. Even the full, no cat, race-only Termi only gives another 5% HP and it was specifically designed for this bike by a top-level outfit. The cheaper aftermarket cans (MIVV for example) just sound tinny and loud. And this sort of mod might void any warranty on the FI system.

Gotta say, so far, an aftermarket pipe is really only for looks and sound (personal opinion). Haven't seen a dyno yet that rates the price of a slip on or full setup. If it sounded like a sowing machine, there's a reason. But most of us agree the OEM growl is pretty bad-ass. The only thing I could go searching for is more power, and more than a couple ponies.

This is a good thing. It means Ducati wrung all they could out of this little gem of a motor and it should soothe some of those hate threads on hear about "what am I paying for?"

gatdammit - I agree it sounds good. But I want a bit more grunt sound.

zippy - the full ti system from akra does up the hp on it plus we know akra sounds awesome.

Yep, another 5 or 6 HP for a mere $3k...not my idea of sufficient "bang for the buck." If I wanted more power I'd have bought a bike that came with it. I've had a few.

I agree 5hp more for $1900 is not cost effective but the sound it acquires also to me makes it justifiable. Honestly had they done the same as the first motard ie 1100 engine range or a 1199 sf i would have bought that instead.
