Windscreen height for short people?

Hi guys,

I figure I should stop lurking and start posting... I picked up a new 2013 Hypermotard (not strada) in December for a really good deal, so now I'm trying to cherry pick parts I want off the HS to put on my HM.

Without a screen I get the full force of the wind right in the chest, and it's particularly unpleasant above 70mph - unfortunately, this is about where I get most of my riding in. I'm hoping the Ducati Performance short carbon windscreen will work well enough to keep the blast off my chest, but that's a pretty expensive experiment to perform.

tl;dr: I'm short at 5'8" and looking to keep the wind off my chest. Anyone have thoughts for which screen I should be looking for?

Also, if anyone has opinions on what mirror/bars/handguards work well from an aesthetic point of view, I'd love to hear them.

Hey mate - welcome on board.
I have 3 windscreen set ups for my Hyper which I chop and change as I like:
1) Ducati shorty carbon (comes with new mounting brackets in the box
2) Standard OEM
3) Extension spoiler for the standard screen to raise it about another 3 inches.

The shorty carbon really looks the part, but has just about no affect on wind blast whatsoever, anything over 80mph becomes hard work and a strain on the neck.

The standard screen is not too bad, but still allows head buffeting at high speeds

The extension works very well if riding long distances, but does not look too pretty.

I don't think the Hypermotard comes with the correct mounting brackets for a screen, so you may have to buy these too, in all honesty I would go with the standard screen for all round use.

I am 6 foot tall, 200 pounds

Hi,

I'm 1.7 m tall (about 5'7") and a bit more than 200 lb and I love the OEM touring screen.
This gives me the protection I want, also on highway speeds upto 150 kmh (95 mph).
After that it begins to feel a bit wobly but I think it's more a fork issue or not having a steering damper.

I Ride: anything I can get my hands on
I would recommend the stock Hyperstrada screen and also the Strada seat. This seat puts you lower on the bike so you get more protection. The Motard seat I tried on my Strada put me up an inch, and that was enough to make the wind pressure uncomfortable. I am tall but spiderman-ish, with a short torso.

Also, the Strada windshield allows air to pass underneath it and that reduces buffeting.

Thanks for all the advice everyone! I'm going to stop by the dealer tomorrow and order the stock HS screen and mounts I think.

A steering damper is high on my list of things to buy. The 821 isn't as bad as the old Hyper, but it starts getting a little twitchy around ~95 mph or so.

I'm 6' tall and sat on both the Motard and Strada when I was shopping. I could barely touch on the Motard and felt very high. The Strada seat significantly lowers you and combined with the stock windshield, it has quite adequate wind protection in my opinion. If you simply get a windshield you will most likely not get the full benefit unless you go with the lower seat option. It will never be a Concours 14, but the bike was never intended to be that type of bike. Hope you enjoy your Hyper as much as I have.
