But in advice

Hello all, thanks for registering me. I'll make this short and sweet, I'm
New to your forum but not to forums in general.

I'm going to be buying a hyperstrada in the next month or so. I had my sights set on a bike that was a demo but it was sold before I could go look at it. I called the dealer to ask about it, and he said it was sold but that he could sell me a '15 for around the same price(10k range). Looks like I may be going with that so I have a few questions.

Seems a bit odd for him to offer this price. Is it uncommon for them to sell this low?

Any buying advice on the bike in general?

I want a warranty obviously, he recommended something called pinnacle instead of ever red. He said pinnacle works at all bike shops and ever red only works at Ducati anyone have any experience?

Thanks in advance!

Also good god.... Auto correct from buying to but in? I promise, I'm not going to get that familiar with the bike.

They don't sell a lot of these bikes. They were selling for less than that around here. Probably just wants to get rid of it to make room for the 2016 models.

That's what I figured. He offered the 10k number over the phone. My goal is 11 out the door with warranty included. Seems reasonable. It's basically asking for them to take an additional thousand or so off.

That's fantastic pricing for a new Hyperstrada, and it's a great bike too. Not familiar with the differences in those warranties, but keep asking around. You do want warranty.

I admit it makes me concerned for the longevity of the HS platform that (at least some) dealers are discounting it heavily. If it's often selling below cost, it will be discontinued at some point, which would be too bad. It's a great platform. Not as big and heavy (or complex)as a Multistrada, but still huge versatility for different rides, riders, roads.....

I totally agree. Not to stir the pot, but Ducati service rep is there for a reason. Yes, they are way way way better than before, and I actually trust it not to break, however if it does, it's usually expensive to fix because of the Ducati name.

Hopefully it won't be discontinued, it seems like a good bike, but for a small market. It works perfectly for my situation. Young enough to want something quick, old enough to not want a full on sport bike, not old enough to be able to afford a multi or GS, nor would I fully utilize their features.

PS. For after the factory 2-year warranty, I bought an extended plan with RPMOne (from the Duc. dealer), and the provider is Interstate National Dealer Services, Inc. I can't comment on how well it works, as I have not had any claims (and bike is still under factory warranty anyway). I just wanted to have some peace of mind, in case it should blow up completely right after the factory warranty ends.....

Looks like it'll be 11,900 out the door for the bike... Out of curiousity , since you said you haven't had to use the warranty how old/many miles is your bike? Also since I'm buggin ya already, what's the belts service cost typically?

My Hyperstrada is the standard (not Low), model year 2013, bought in spring of '14, and now with close to 5000 miles (only...). One service at the dealer, plus I have changed oil and filter this summer myself. Other than that, just a change of tires to comply with the needs of a track day school. It's supposed to have the throttle control unit replaced under warranty, but no real issues from that (new TCU is on order). Some people on here complain about throttle response/fueling and clutch function. Maybe I am just really lucky, but the fueling on mine is near perfect from 2000 to redline and it's the smoothest clutch I think I have used. No idea when timing belts need replacing, but guessing that's way ahead of me in miles (I will look it up)... maybe you meant something else?

Sounds like yours has held up well, that's encouraging to hear. As someone who has a '13 was there ever a final verdict on whether or not the shorter one worked out as well? One of the possible bikes I'd get is a '13 so I'd like to know what I'm walking in to.

As far as belts, yes it's timing. My dad has always had Ducatis and the 2 dreaded service things are always belts and valves. The HS has a wicked long belt and valve service interval (18k miles) where as bikes like the original multi were 7.5k.
