I Ride: 2013 Hyperstrada
On one cross country ride, we encountered a scooter rider crossing the country.

When I think touring this is the top bike:

When I think off-pavement touring I think:

When I think 2,000 to 3,000 mile loops around California on backroads I think:

Or, if carrying a lot of gear this:

Or this:

The beauty of motorcycles is the huge variety and giant differences in functionality.

Here is the data I collected from what I consider to be the ultimate Hyperstrada and Hypermotard ride:

The kind of ride I think this bike was designed for.

BUT, the kind of ride well suited to the GS and Super Duke too.

Proof that any form of "motorcycle" can be included in the spectrum is the Spyder.

I Ride: anything I can get my hands on
Nope. Not a bike. Those things steer backwards, like a car. Plus the back tire is a bit narrow for the available power...won't do a wheelie, either.

Plus it's the worst of both worlds...need to wear a helmet and are exposed to the elements, but you can't lane split or lean it into corners!

Right with you Marty! I'm thinking of picking up a WR250R. I tested the CRF, liked it but I liked WR just a bit more. Both great bikes. If you can seek out the small roads and alternate routes your CC ride should be a hoot. Good luck!

I'm thinking of setting my WR up for S. America. I've been before and done Mexico and Cent. America on my DR650 ... so a 250 will be a new experience.
Last long ride on small bikes was Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia back in early/mid 90's. Actually, most of those rides were on 125's!

Hope you will post up a Ride Report somewhere and link it here.

Me and DR650 on the road out to Utah, Colorado and Nevada. One of two rides out that way. If you know the way ... you can ride dirt roads from Nevada all the way to Utah.

Some magazine guys were testing a couple of them around the Santa Maria area.
They came round a corner at speed ... we going opposite way ... one guy drifted WIDE .... really got our attention! It could have been ugly! Plenty of negative comments on these regards safe handling at speed.

Frankly, I'd rather ride the Paiute Trail System, or any of the other Utah trail systems, than the unpaved roads across the US. I know the allure of the TAT and the north/south routes, it's that there are so many other options which bypass farm trucks.

But then, it is a good thing we all don't ride on the same routes as that level of traffic would take the fun away.

And, I'd still rather have the KTM 690 for touring off-pavement.
