Troubleshooting EOBD (ENGINE/DIAGNOSTIC) LIGHT ON - ERROR: ENGINE

Hi,

My Ducati's from 2013, has 12000miles and all services and recalls (including limp issue) already done. I leave in San Diego, CA so the weather is...well...always the same, warm :-)

A couple of months ago I notice the EOBD light turning on for 10~20sec then off, during highway rides (around 70mph). It become worse and now is almost always on. Going to the menu the errors says “ENGINE” so lot of things could be failing (lambda sensor? Exhaust valve?, etc.). I know that only the dealer can further read error codes but my dealer is too far away (commuting there cost me 100u$s by Uber) so, if possible, I prefer to troubleshooting the problem myself.

Now the bike run rough (not smooth at all) in low-end with occasional stalling, in high-end is fine with its usual acceleration and power. The other symptom I notice is the full tank last 20% more than before, so I’m guessing is running lean.

Can somebody help me troubleshoot this? If its any of the sensors, how can I test them?

Is it worth looking into these soft that can read ECU data (e.g. JPDIAG)?

Thanks in advance

i would pull both o2 sensors. in this case engine light will be on, but if it runs fine you can be sure that one of the o2sensors is the reason/problem.
you will see that without o2 sensors bike runs fine, better that stock, because it always runs in open loop.
other problem as of my experience, engine light will not go off, even when new and functional o2sensors are installed, it only does not light any more when error is deleted in ecu with diagnostic software.
i do this with my rexxer evo. should work with jpdiag or iaw5diag also, but you need to change the cable pins for the 3pin connector. it definitly will not work with the new diagnostic cable from canbus.

Thank you very much for your prompt answer. I'll work on your suggestions this weekend and report back!
Cheers!
