Question How to RECONNECT exhaust flapper valve?

I just purchased a new (to me) 2014 HS. It has a great slip-on but... it's quite loud.

How does one "reconnect" the exhaust flapper valve? It still "sweeps" during startup btw, so the cable IS connected... But it doesn't actually seem to close the valve when the bike is running...

I hear there is a plug somewhere that people disconnect?

Not entirely sure what is going on...

That looks connected. If the servo is still doing it's startup check, it's either functioning and you just have a very loud pipe, or, the previous seller cut the flapper plate out. If you pull the can off at the cat connection you should see the flapper inside. You can either grind the flapper off and leave the servo rod, or, cut the entire thing out and weld the rivets. I doubt that because there would have been no need to leave the mechanical servo in place.

Keep in mind the flapper only closes once you are on the gas from 1k - 3k and then opens again so it won't help with idle or higher speed noise. Might be better to look for a DB killer for the slip on.

Ok that might be the case. Which is sad because (at least for me) I do wish it was closed at idle so my neighbors don't hate me.

Time to measure the ID of the exhaust pipe where the slip-on connects then to get some kind of exhaust silencer

Check that your slip-on doesn't have a db killer made for it. A lot of them come with one.
