glad Ducati will cover your repair, my Ducati dealer mentioned that Ducati Italia tends to cover these kind of factory defects even outside the warranty (+ few months). shame from 2015 you can't buy extended warranty for Ducati 😩

Christmas lights happened to me last weekend. Engine won't start and fan blowing. Turned of the ignition, tail light and rear turn signals flashing. Bike is now at the dealer. They can't read the ECU and asked if I had the bike serviced by a non-Ducati technician. Of course no. They say they have to check the ECU. I forwarded some of the messages here to help them out. Glad it is still under warranty. Merry Christmas to me!

Did you have the throttle recall done?

More symptomatic of the coils going than the throttle - though a throttle check is a good idea.

I'm not sure. Had a software update when my odometer read blinking dash line.

Btw, this is how the dash looked like.

I'm just worried because the dealer is questioning the battery tender and horn I place which was both directly connected to the battery.

I had the exact thing happen with mine (errors/fan). I'm sorry to say, but I'd be willing to bet a fair amount that a coil went bad and took out your dash along with it. Here's the details from my experience:

as of the technician of my garage its the coil of the front cylinder which fails and takes dash and ecu with it.
so i will change it at 15000 km service as a precaution. as of him the coil of the back cylinder is not involved. strange, but he means thats definitly so.

When mine went at 8500 miles, Ducati replaced both the front and back (the front coil was also my failure point).

A friend of mine had this happen and ducati replaced it for free - good on them. What I don't understand is why they make people jump through hoops on this and the TCU - issue a recall and deal with it.

This is not how a purported luxury brand should treat its purported luxury customers. Luxury is more than charging more money, and dealership floorspace; it is about following through on the user experience, which entails something other than "every man out for themselves."

what we do not know - how many % of all 821 or HS are affected ?
is it only 10%, i understand Ducati. Would it be 50%(what i doubt), i am sure Ducati would do an official recall.
