Lead acid batteries can break an internal connection and fail, that happened to a batch of Yuasas some years ago. But it's good to hear that it was only the battery!

Wow. So I called the dealer today to get an update on progress.

Ducati told them that 1/1000 bikes seem to be having the same issue. They then had them check the coils and the wires feeding and leaving them. Wires checked good, so they have to replace both coils. With that, the coil malfunction fried the dash, which is why it looked like a bad arcade game when you turned the key on and it wouldn't start. So, they will be replacing both coils and the dash.

They're going to try and "marry" the new dash to the existing ECU. They said it may not work, or if the ECU is bad, then a new one will also have to be ordered and replaced.


Humph……

On a good note, at least it's not riding season yet. On a bad note….this is the reason I sold my last Ducati. Hopefully this solves the issue and it's all I have go wrong.

I had the exact issue, the coils fried the electronics so they had to replace coils and dashboard. 4000 miles later and no problems after the fix.

Bummer, Mich. But that's only 2 or so reports on this forum. I get a good sense of confidence that mine is reliable. They got the motor/drivetrain so right, which is top of my list for shit I don't like flaming out, but electrical issues can drive one mad.

I'd ride the warranty out and hold them to making this right. Seems like pretty isolated issue with some bad coils.

Good to hear. I hope this solves it. I'm going to call Ducati now though and see if they'll extend the warranty on the replaced components though. A new ECU is $1800…..OUCH!

New coils and dash solved the issue. I just got the bike back and it's riding as new. I guess the could went bad which sent a charge the wrong way back to the dash?….I don't know. But it's fixed now.

Yesterday it was my turn to get this problem.

The DTC light, the ABS light, Blinker lights, the dash went blank, then started flashing "errors" across it, none of me trip/odometer information showed, no engine temp reading, and lastly, the engine cooling fan was running.

The error code is "Dashboard and Engine",

And the bike season has just began.........

I had a similar problem. Engine ran fine but oil pressure warning light came on and error message displayed but no error codes were listed. Prior to that I had intermittent trouble starting where I would just get a "click" rather than the engine turning over. The root cause was the installation of the wiring harness. Seems the install was such that the wires got flattened and shorted. The dealer replaced all electrical components including wiring harness, ECU, dash, BBS, coils, etc. Bike had 6,300 miles on it.

So i can report the exact same issue
dashboard flashing randomly, warning on, fans on, even with the key removed from contact.
Dealer said that they seen already the excat same symptom on on hyper SP 2013, which was caused by the wiring harness. they had to change the entire cabling (mutiplex bus)
Bike is 11000 km and was bought in May 2013
Not fixed yet, wil report when, with details.
Better to have this in within the warranty period rather than just after ...
