Hyperstrada fuel tank capacity

Are US miles more than UK miles. I never get more than around 98 miles until my amber light illuminates on my SP.
I am riding around congested London streets, stopping and starting with a full termi.

In congested traffic Im not surprised at ~100mi to the fuel light.

Personally, I've made it to 170 miles before filling up (not running out of gas) running on touring mode. I want to swear I put about 3.8 in the tank so I must have been pretty close to out of gas. My light usually comes on between 110-125. Stock hypermotard.

I Ride: anything I can get my hands on
Last Summer I averaged 55 miles/US gallons, two-up on a five day trip. It's the power mode that matters, plus trying to be gentle on The Passenger. I run "Touring" with power at medium, ABS on 1, TC on 3.

I will say that Urban/Low is the only time I've seen the computer register over 51 mpg. You can feel the motor surges and hunts a lot less with the dampened response. I have a Cramp Buster for the hwy, too.

todays fillup

At 264km on the trip odo #1, I added 12.2L to the bottom of the fuel cap ring - in other words maxi full! That's 21.6 km/L, which I believe is about 60.9 mile/imp gallon. Probably about 70% of that was in Sport mode and the rest in Touring. Included in that was a 70km blast over the Kootenay Pass, probably averaging about 130-140kph and another 70km of twisties along the East shore of Kootenay LAke. I continue to be impressed by the HS's minimal fuel consumption.

In "rain" mode (75hp mode) I was getting an indicated 51mpg, which was 47mpg actual.

I've been tracking my fuel economy since I got my Hyper:

Red (Ducati Hyperstrada) | Fuelly

Looking at my history, I've never put in more than 3.13 gallons and that was with 171 miles on the trip odometer.

Technically I should have been able to go another 58 miles before running empty which either means part of the 4.2 gallon tank is not useable or the light comes on much sooner than when a gallon is left in the tank.

CA Cycleworks will design larger tank if 50 people sign up

Chris Kelley at CA Cycleworks said to me in an email he would design and build a larger fuel tank for the new 821 Hyper if at least 50 people sign up to buy one in advance. Just saying. He made a 6.4 gallon tank for HM1100 that he sells for $899. I might start a new thread to see if 50 people are interested. A cheaper option for more fuel storage is a separate tank like the RotopaX mounted somewhere like on the tail rack.
