Givi V46 Monokey system

Hello Friends,

Its been a while since I've posted so I just wanted to drop in and say hello as well as show off my new givi top box. Ducati wants to charge a crazy amount for their factory top box, like $800.00...HELL NO! I found the Givi top box on craigslist for $300 and bought the mounting system from Revzilla cost me $450.00 total AND it has more storage capacity then the Ducati top box. I actually ride more often with just my top box and leave the panniers at home. It is easier to get in and out of, more secure and its hard shell so everything stays dry. I drilled in the back rest so passengers can sit easy...although it took a couple of tries   . Check it out and let me know what you think! (Older pics so backrest isn't shown, I just installed it two days ago)

I may be the only person who thinks that top boxes look fat and ruin the lines of motorcycles.

Even fat motorcycles look fatter with them.

Rider on my rides are prohibited from having top boxes.

Want to carry more? Better side cases.

Prohibited? That just sounds downright egotistic. But that's just my opinion.

I prefer my top case. It acts as a backrest for my significant other, and holds what I want it to for commuting and short trips. No need for a tank bag or anything else on the bike, and it's easily removed.

I got my Kappa KGR46 for about $150 shipped from Italy, with a Kappa (identical to GIVI) mount for about $80. I added on the metal rack on top of it, and the backrest. Those together were another $80.

Since I document my group rides with hundreds of photos, top cases aren't allowed. Single riders. No camping. No need for huge storage. Top cases take away from the look I want for photos. There are parameters and prerequisites for all sorts of tours. I have a short list of requirements for my twice a year rides. One is no big FAT top cases.

Are you working as a professional Moto-Journalist? Getting paid for your work?

If so, then agree. Are your buddies OK with that policy?:D Usually, riding with "friends", not a big deal. But I do hate when guys leave helmets, jackets and gloves on the bike. Ruins the shot.

We had in-famous guy here in Bay Area that led rides. North Stars to start, then NorCal group. He was a Hyper-Facist regards rules on his rides. Actually, some made sort of sense. :D
No loud pipes. Show up with loud pipe you would be asked to leave the ride.
But there was more ... :(

Riders actually put up with this guy for a while but his power trip went way beyond loud pipes ... eventually everyone bailed out. Shame because the guy laid out the best routes. Chuck Wood's rides started 30 years ago and we still use his routes as a base for our rides today.

Chuck was a San Fran Deputy Dist. Attorney. Great to have around if we got pulled over, NEVER a ticket with this guy around ... man, but what a Prick he was. A super eccentric. Last time I saw him he was riding a old Pacific Coast
Honda that looked like it went off a cliff. Serious.

Does this tail bag make my Butt Look FAT?

I bought this tail bag for it's trimmed down look. Looks OK on the HyperStrada IMO. But ended up liking the stock side bags
better overall ... and they hold more. I'll keep this inexpensive Nelson-Rigg bag however, will fit on anything, is well made, holds quite a bit.

I have the same Givi case on my white Hyper. Very practical. Only use the side cases on longer trips.

FYI. I posted a DIY on matching the lock to your key.

Hi, can you post a link to your DIY lock matching? I searched but couldn't find it. I have the same setup. Thanks.

My rides are a business.

Ride groups of 3 to max of 6 are the goal.

Not interested in broad appeal. Just core group of experienced, safe, quiet, and interesting riders.

I've been organizing rides for two decades. When my AMA rides grew to hundreds, it was just too much. Federal fees didn't help either.
