I thought I remember seeing a post on here about someone gluing magnets on the inside of the black trim around the gas cap for a tank bag. This is what I plan on doing, magnets are on the way.

Metal plates were taped under the black trim. That's about all that would fit under there.

The magnets were attached to the bag itself.

I think you want to glue metal since the bags have magnets. But if you do glue magnets, make sure the polarity is right or you'll have an "interesting' situation.

Yeah, I was going to be sure that polarity was correct. We'll see if I can even get them to fit! Might be interesting. I just don't like all the options that involve straps. It just takes away the whole ease of use that magnets provide.

I wonder if there's a ferrous foil out there that would be easy to form to the plastics.

I agree that some of the off road options - like GL - have elaborate clip systems that are more for simpler trail bikes. In the case of GL they also have a zipper thing that looks impossible. Whatever wolfman is up to I can't even fathom. These things aren't of interest to me.

I use a Nelson Rigg bag and it's simple - one strap wrapped around the headstock, and 2 around the cross-piece under the seat. For fueling I just unclip the front 2 clips and let the bag hang. Pretty simple and very sturdy.

Great minds think alike.

Wish we could use the magnetic mount instead of the straps, but I'll post up some pics when I get it.

The Count
Ha ha Look forward to seeing how it fits.

What's wrong with the Ducati tankbag?

I don't use one anymore, but found it to be great quality and fit well.

Price and size? $250 for a tankbag that isn't waterproof is just dumb.

Apparently I'm "just dumb" as I have made numerous purchases from Toruatech, where their BMW tankbag was $399 and not waterproof either. (Instead they use a waterproof liner.) I also spent right at $1,000 for a Motoport riding jacket that isn't waterproof either.

I mean, you said it not me. I just don't think the value proposition is there. If you're happy with what you bought, then why would I care?

I have a custom made tank bag, perfectly sized for the hyperstrada, which cost me $40. Made with waterproof cordura, and uretek zippers. All I need are magnets underneath the black plastic tank cover.
