Frederique is looking into it for the moment. I know Ray pretty well. We were colleagues. And I went to Austria with him, his brother and his neighbour... Do you know him from Ducaticlub?

als zijne Multi tegen dan nog werkt natuurlijk. hij heeft al problemen met de olie die mayonaise kuren heeft...

E: If his Multi still works by then off course. He already has some problems with his oil that looks like mayonaise that's dividing

If he has a white gummy substance in his oil sight gauge and plug, it's not that serious. Guess it's just moisture building in the case from sitting for long periods. I had this in mine when I started riding regularly after winter.

After running the bike for a ride, shut it down and remove the oil plug while it sits. I did this one time and all the gummy stuff disappeared completely. I was pretty freaked out at first.

Don't forget to reinstall plug before starting!

Hi Treeper

Any news about your bike yet?

I collected mine back from Ducati Thonglor on Tuesday last week. I was informed that they had replaced some vacuum tubes. (the week before, they replaced the ignition coils and the week before that, they played with the idol speed).

Saturday was the first time I could have opportunity to ride.

Well, the problem remains, the bike stops frequently when riding in stop/start traffic. When back on the open road, the bike runs well....... except, since collecting back from Ducati, the engine now has a new and unpleasant metallic whistle/vibration at 4,600 rpm (both on accel and deccel).

Today, Ducati are collecting my bike again. This will be visit No. 4 for the same problem. I have requested that they involve Ducati Thailand this time.

In my business, I am a supplier to Ducati Thailand, and of course, know several Directors and Managers there. However, at present I prefer not to use my direct contacts to solve this problem.

I'm hoping very much that Ducati Thonglor can solve this problem effectively, without me having to resort to 'string pulling'.

Will keep you updated

Winkie, have you noticed your engine temp when the problem occurs?

I had a problem a couple of times over the last year when in stop and go traffic in high temperatures the bike shut down. Normally temp goes up to max of 107 then, I see and automatic lowering of temp back to the 104 range. No problem then. When the bike has shut down, just prior the temp climbed to 108, almost like the fan or something was not turning on.

Is this similar to your situation?

Hi Big Mango

Yes, I kept an eye on the Engine and Ambient Temps to see if they are significant.

Typically the engine temp is at 103 or 104 when this happens, I have never seen my temp go beyond 106. I have asked specifically at Ducati Thonglor, and been told that up to 110 is not a problem.

Because this happens in start/stop traffic, the ambient temp is obviously very high. Typically 40 degrees C.

My worry now is the new 'whine' that occurs specifically at 4,600rpm, both on the way up and coming down again. This surely is not healthy.

Ducati Thonglor are collecting my bike this afternoon, I will go to see them tomorrow to have a talk with the Service Manager. I believe that they now need to get Ducati Thailand involved in this issue. I'm not confident that this is matter will be resolved quickly. This will be the 4th time that it has been in for the same problem, and the only change I have experienced is that it was returned to me with an additional problem last time.

I guess I will know a little more by the weekend (hopefully).

Treeper, how are you getting on? Any update from your side?

Update from the dealer

Well, as the weather was looking great the last few and coming days here in Belgium I was eager to get my bike back. So I called the dealer on Wednesday and asked how the situation was developing.

The answer I got was a bit, uhm, terrifying:
-all sensors have been replaced
-coils replaced
-ignition replaced
-petrol changed
-throttle will be replaced (I will receive a call back letter in the coming days, so they'll do that automatically), but that won't be the problem since they already tried a brand new one on it without changes
-CPU has been checked
-oil quantity and quality have been checked: they're sound
-engine won't start, and when it does it turns off seconds later
-it seems to be a failsafe from the ECU (well that's 1 thing that's working as it should then)
-only 1 cylinder is working - the horizontal one, vertical one doesn't work at all
-cylinders have been looked into, but no problem on sight
-it's the 1st time my dealer comes across this problem
-there is a fault code, but since there is no installers manual available for the Hypermotard/Hyperstrada ( what the...?), they can't look it up. Hence they contacted Bologna (Ducati headquarters) and asked them.

The mechanic think it'll be something mechanical. But needs to wait until he gets the Italians on the line.

That's 3 weeks now since the start of the problems. With no solution in sight...

It's that it's such a fun bike to ride, or else I would've paid a visit to the Triumph dealership (new Tiger 800 looks great) or KTM (1050 Adventure) already
