Go to your dealer now and have the throttle checked

Theres' been a bunch of posts about limp mode, manifested by limited power but no warning lights. This is the throttle position sensor failing.

The reason I'm writing this is because, while a few SP owners were notified, the rest were not - I own an affected strada and received no notice. When I went into limp mode the dealer took my bike to the back - got some numbers off the TCU and entered it into the computer. Sure enough it was a defective unit.

This is what pisses me off - they know there are defective units out there and they are not telling people to get their bikes checked. The upshot is people who haven't gotten the notice think their bike is fine.

There are two ways this can manifest itself - limp mode with a loss of power, and random acceleration. This is not a good way to do business - particularly with a safety related defect.

You don't have to wait for failure - just go and have them look at it. The replacement is free and can be done while you wait, after the part arrives.

  • You have to go to the dealer to find out.
  • The VIN will not be of help on the recall website.
  • It's up to you.

I hope this can be made a sticky so people don't have to have their trips cut short, or get into a dangerous situation.

Are you registered with Ducati owners site? I got a letter and email. Think they're only legally bound if it's an NTSB recall, not a TSB. For NTSB recalls, they use VIN registration databases. TSB's are just them being good natured.

Some did some didn't. Kind of the worst of all worlds because those who didn't think they're OK. I don't have a spam box and I get ducati shit all the time (carbon fiber nasal extenders etc..)

But, this post isn't for me - i have the new TCU and am happily throttling - it's for others. Get yer bike checked - save some pain.

I have the same problem here in Germany.
Only on demand, I learned that at my machine the clutch cable and the throttle grip must be changed. A relay for the fuel pump must be checked. The steering head bearings gets a new cover.

The mechanic told me it was Ducati policy not to inform the customer.
For the time in the workshop, there are no free replacement vehicle

Thank you Appliance 821

Ok, so mine needs a new TCU. The bike is booked in for next Thursday to have the throttle, steering cover and the starter done. Just gotta hope the parts arrive as it is a long weekend here this weekend. Cheers
