I Ride: '13 Hyperstrada
My HS has been tampered ! Need help please

Hi all,

It's safe to say i have to spend a huge wad of cash on this. ):
While at work yesterday, some F*** just took the liberty to move my bike even with the steering lock engaged. Now, i have an issue with it; i simply cant lock the steering anymore.

I wonder if anyone here can help furnish me with a part number or an online OEM part supplier?

I've attached the picture of the damage done. ):

The design is flawed. The little nub only goes a few mm into the fork crown. I would probably look into extending the locking pin or something.

Here's a barnyard fix suggestion...

If you can find a welder with sufficient talent, he could build up the damaged part of the upper fork clamp. Or...I think I might look at drilling and tapping into the clamp and installing a pair of suitable bolts. Get them in good and deep, and shim the heads to provide as much overlap with the pin as possible without interfering with normal fork rotation.

I have the same problem. There a couple of things to be aware of:

- Later bikes a different top yoke with a deeper casting that's machined to give more overlap. The yoke we have is superseded. If you order a replacement you'll get the new type. From memory its about 165.

- 2 years in a row mine had an MOT advisory for lose steering bearings. The first time it was pretty loose but I just adjusted it. The second time there was a lot of play again so I tore it down. The 'bearings' were just so much rust. With new bearings (about 40 from the local bearing man) and seals the lock works well enough for 10 minutes outside Tescos. For longer stops I've got a disc lock. Replacing the bearings isn't a difficult job but its worth getting the local shop to change the inner one on the bottom yoke.

My guess is the combination of poor design and knackered bearings causes the problem. Looks like water gets in the bearings through the holes in the adjuster nut despite various seals. Worth taping over when you wash the bike. My local dealer confirmed this.
