Draining the oil/coolant is the real kick in the junk for me. It's going to push me to timing this with an oil change...a 6.5 hr oil change. Thanks Kuk |

The biggest time consumer is scraping off the old silicone sealant... A gasket would have been MUCH easier!

Hi K. Do you maybe know if the 27040101A or 27040103A starters will also fit on the Hyperstrada? They look to be exactly the same, but one never knows. This is the sound my crappy 27040127A makes... https://www.dropbox.com/s/pchxmjgl81...83259.avi?dl=0 Thanks, P Last edited by cloetep; March 22nd, 2017 at 12:57 AM. |

if they fit a hypermotard they also fit a hyperstrada, both have identical engines.

However your bike is making a strange noise, that is not consistent with the typical starter motor failure. Can you tell where the noise is coming from? You may need to also inspect the sprag clutch (one-way clutch connecting the starter motor to the engine).

Thanks for the replies. It actually does sound if the noise is coming from the starter. I took the belly cover off and put my ear next to the starter and the noise seems to be coming from there. Real loud when you are close to it. I get the noise whether the bike is cold or hot. With the sprag clutch being submerged in oil do you think it will also be able to make that sort of "bearing" noise? There is no slipping or strange starting behavior bar the funny noise. When the bike is in gear with the engine off and you push it backwards causing the sprag clutch to engage and also turn the starter motor you hear the sound as well. Here is another video of that... https://www.dropbox.com/s/oexejo99bz...83721.avi?dl=0 |

It wouldn't hurt to take it apart and spin the starter motor to see if that's the problem. I'm not sure I would run the bike too much if its making that noise.

I really hope it is only the starter! Question: if you open the engine cover and spin the starter, how do you stop the bike from actually starting and running without oil or coolant? |

Unplug the ignition coil and fuel pump relay.
