So if I don't care about the check engine light being on all the time, there's no problems running with the sensors disconnected all the time at all speeds? My bike started surging badly when the weather warmed up, and yesterday the engine light came on and I lost power (engine would still idle) until I shut if off and restarted, then the engine light was off and it rode like normal again (still surging at part throttle).

I should add that it was not fun to have this happen on the highway with no safe spots to pull over onto.

That sounds like the old 'limp mode' issue some early gen 1's had. TSB fixed mine. Search it.

It could be, but if it is, I have to bring it to the dealer to diagnose, then wait for the throttle to arrive and then bring it back for them to install. I'd like to do a quick diagnosis on my own by disconnecting the O2 sensors and see if there's an improvement, which would rule out the throttle. And if it runs fine on open loop just like all my other Ducati's before it, I can live with the light on.
