Just checked my 2016 939. No recall so they must have fixed it in the later models.

It sounds as though they didn't design in sufficient reverse EMF protection from inductive loads on the electrical system such as motors, solenoids and ignition coils. Inductive kickback from these loads when they are de-energized can wreak havoc on semiconductors without proper clamping on their power rails. Wish I could get ahold of the schematics for my bike.

On the bright side I found another dealership with service closer than the one recommended to me. Only an hour away.

Never trust the website recall search. Call your dealer and ask.

Yes. I don't know about this specific case, but a real recall is serious NHTSA monitored and mandated business. Lots of the fixes that we call recalls here are actually just TSBs, still done free and often quite important, but will never show up as a true recall.

I'll ask the dealer when I take the 939 in for the 600 mile service.

Hi,

I think you are right ! I wonder the CAN filter only protects dashboard!!! My bike installed the Can Filter, after 2 days error "CAN line" again, I checked everything, finally I found the ECU was dead ! So I think M.A.E makes the CAN filter to protect only their dashboard !
So now I don't care about CAN filter anymore, the best way I can do that is find the exactly issue which detroy can bus system!

Could we find the problem together? Any information will be appreciated!

Ps: when I say the Can filter only protect dashboard, I mean the transient voltage could go anywhere, but now the dashboard built the block gate (CAN filter), so the transient voltage will go to the ECU where end of the can bus ! ( ECU & dashboard are ends of can bus with 120ohms )
