I Ride: 2015 Hypermotard
The plot thickens, it seems the problem is getting worse, as I now find the bike starts in limp mode roughly half the time. I've also noticed two instance where the dashboard will flash the dreaded "christmas tree" before returning to normal functions and leaving the bike in limp mode. I've seen this happen once shortly after starting the bike and beginning to ride off, and once at the end of a ride as I was putting the bike in the garage. I've got to make the bike presentable after which I'll take it to the dealer for another pass.

Damn. Wonder what it could be. Seems like people who had the Christmas tree failure had it once and it stuck, never to function properly again. Because it's intermittent it makes me think there is a loose connection.

This is actually reminding me of the time jokeshopbeard found a broken wire on his wiring harness right near the steering column. There is a little red band of tape. I wonder if it's something like that.

Interesting. Due to some foolishness on my part I'll be replacing the headlight bracket as soon as I get the part. That ought to give me a chance to thoroughly inspect the wiring harness. Given this has only started recently it could be unrelated to over all limp mode issue and instead related to the broken tab on my headlight bracket (which coincidentally happened with enough force to knock the headlight connection loose). Good thing Motoguild is a mere 25 minutes away!

Well, progress of sorts. I last rode the bike on 26th to moto guild and back to change the oil. Symptoms were more or less the same, it'd sometimes start in limp mode but killing and restarting would bring it back to life. It was raining so the bike did get wet.

I went to ride it to work today and it was permanently stuck in limp mode. Moreover I noticed that I can consistently get the xmas tree lights and "error" on the dash if I turn the bars to the right full lock. I looked and didn't see anything obviously loose or being pinched / pulled in that position. I'm starting to wonder if once of the canbus filters might have come loose and is creating a short.

Unfortunately I'll likely have to pay Munroe to dig into this as I don't relish the idea of riding all the way to treasure island in limp mode. Hopefully it's something as simple as a short and not a fried dash or ECU.

That sounds very similar to the issue Jokeshopbeard had.

On the left side of the bike near the steering head, you will see the wiring bundle zip-tied to the frame and there is probably a piece of red tape around it. Inside, there is a splice from the factory, which fatigues and breaks.

It's a pain but you could check this by simply pulling the tape off the wire bundle. Dash flicking on/off His pictures are dead due to photobucket dying.

Anyway that's all I got!!

Ok thanks, I'm hoping it's something simple like that. I got it out of limp mode for a moment this morning but it dropped right back in which is new, so I'm guessing if it is this it's just gotten worse after getting wet. I'll have to take the entire headlight assembly and dash apart to install a new headlight bracket (which gets here on Tuesday) so maybe I'll see if I can find and fix this then prior to paying Munroe the big bucks.

By the way I haven't had my issue come back. Just that once was it, but I will certainly keep you posted if I have it and come to a solution.

Probably something related to the bracket and attached wiring. seems a reasonable assumption.
