I Ride: 2013 Hyperstrada
Okay so it looks pretty but dose it perform better? What are the performance gains?

Ofcourse it flows better. There are a bunch of little things going on that add up to alot. Giuseppe has some flow charts and performance increase proof of OEM vs first generation Starace intake vs 2nd generation Starace intake. The opening for the filter intake is quite a bit larger than oem(and larger than the Ducati performance intake that is getting harder to come by). That isnt the only thing going on though. The OEM and DP intakes hold the filter tight to the top of the housing essentially making the top part of the filter not utilized and in turn less flow. The Starace intake tilts the filter element down away from the top right between the 2 intake trumpets. This makes full use of the filter element itsself because it can now flow air at the top of the filter as well as everywhere else. The 2nd generation has a couple air venturi above the lip of the actual filter opening which is said to make flow smoother. As for performance, I originally installed mine with OEM filter in the Starace housing and noticed the bike was quicker to rev and pulled more smoothly. I then did a Shift-tech exhaust. Later I installed the BMC filter and now I have a rapidbike installed. The bike has so much more punch to it making it more exciting day to day...but currently I'm having fueling/spark issues which is trying my patience. As for the other air box filter modification that is floating around, the one where you cut a hole at the back side of the air box and use self tapping screws to hold a piece of foam in place, I would star away from that one. The show graphs that show power gains on a dyno but in real life with air flowing over the air box it creates a vacuum in the airbox as oppose to letting more air in. Take a box, cut 1 hole twards the front and a 2nd hole twards the back and blow air across the 2 holes, it will create suction inside. There are some videos and research out there that prove what I'm saying, documentation that doesent even pertain to engine flow technology. Just people experimenting on cause and effect of pressure and structure. Sort, now I await the people that will chime in now saying 'my cut air box filter changed my life. Its the best thing since sliced bread' . But as for the Guiseppe Starace intake, it most certainly flows more than stock as well as the Ducati performance housing.

I wouldn't worry too much - I had the Ducati larger intake piece and it maybe made it a little louder, a tiny bit of power, but certainly not a huge noticeable difference. Not worth spending too much time or money to get one. You can't even see the beautiful carbon work because it's hidden under the tank!

Thanks for sharing this and from what I learned about this intake, this is just what I was hoping for...if only I could get me hands on it... :-(

The rub here is I've already paid for it in full, including the BMC filter he offers, I really wanted to put this in when I adjust the valves and have a crack at setting the timing like you did on your...
