Interesting.....now I'm wondering why the option to turn them on wasn't available to the tech.

I have a HS 939 that I brought the 2nd hand (5000kms). With engine running, pushing the start button showed (from memory) "grip fault"
I had after market grips fitted & connected to Ducati connectors behind head light.
Now with engine running & starter button pushed shows grip settings & they work fantastic.

I also plugged both sides directly to the auxiliary power connector under the dash that is probably designed for a gps (aux); both sides with ignition on started to get warm, so the grips are good. I'll have to ask the tech to start the engine with revs above 2000 to see if it shows up on the diagnostic computer.

I thought about the aftermarket grips which are way more affordable, but I just liked having the starter button as the switch with 3 settings and the cleaner look, as this mod is the most important one for me.

Thank you for the great tips!
Sounds like the grips are good at least! And yes, that other plug should be labeled "GPS", and the other two plugs should say "HEATER" or something

Aftermarket works with factory switch no problems, which is awesome. Just use the adaptors that are plugged into the harness and solder it. No modifying the factory harness! Direct plug in

Did you plug them into both heater plugs or did you splice them and only use one plug? (Im assuming not, just have to ask to make sure).

And no, apparently you can't activate the grips without them being installed. The computer needs to see the grips to turn it on according to the tech, and then you can plug and unplug them after that no problems. The tech tried the day before on another one and it wouldnt work until the grips were plugged in.

My guess is it was a user error on the tech side of things (no offense to the tech, it happens). "Try restarting the system and re-attempt" :P

Tell him/her your findings, see if they will brainstorm with you

They are both plugged into their own respective sides. I tested them one at a time with the gps plug, both warmed up. I will also ask the tech to start the motor and rev'it up a bit to see if that will help. But yes, these things happen, and they are good people at the dealership, so I'm certain it'll work out.

Thanks for all the input!

Plug for heated gloves option: Hotwired Heated Gloves

They heat your whole hand, integrate nicely with heated jacket, and warm enough that I don't even need heat above 45F.

I was on the fence about grips and almost pulled the trigger on the cheap versions. I prefer the thin diameter grips and didn't want bulk. Started looking at heated vests, which I needed more than anything and stumbled across this product line. Top notch.

I have some ocd with anything more than just plain leather (preferably deerskin gloves, and having a wire connected to me would also drive me wankey, but I guess we all get different mileage....aside from all of this, even my trackbike has heated grips that came stock lol, so I'm used to them.

Stopped at the dealer today; in-and-out in less than 10 minutes, and the grips show up on the dash and operate with the starter button. They were busy, so I didn't get a chance to ask what made it work, but the clock and trip counter were reset, so maybe a reset, and it showed up on the diagnostic tool.

Thank you all for your input!
