I Ride: anything I can get my hands on
The original throttle on my bike had zero return spring effect for the first 1/4 of travel. That made it tough to maintain the desired setting on bumps and when starting off. I always run DTC at "Touring," with the TC and ABS set low. That helped some, but having full return spring effect made a big difference.

It's TSB 15 003 on the repair order. No cost.

Phew, this thread is quite the read! I have the same issue with the clutch on my '13 hypermotard. I tried to contact user BrentFrank (the guy who posted once about solving his issues with parts from Barnett Clutch), but he hasn't gotten back to me. I called Barnett Clutch and can confirm what other users have posted here - they don't have the parts to fix our clutches, and had simply provided parts from a '15 clutch pack. Great people though - very helpful.

I also briefly chatted with user Fredgilb and he confirmed the same - a '15 clutch pack will drop and solve our issues. Before I drop $450 on this, has anyone here actually completed the swap (besides fredgilb)?

No but he seems very knowledgeable, I would trust that it will work.

First, you should try a different oil. It makes a world of difference. The clutch still isn't great but it's a lot better. I use Motul 7100 10w40

Have you had the TSB 15 003 done? I'd try that first. My dealer and I use Motul 300V.

I've tried changing oil, currently using Motul 300v. Not a huge improvement in my opinion. Throttle is smooth and easy to use on my bike, so I don't think the TSB is going to solve my issue either, unfortunately.

I decided to just go for it - ordered a used '15 clutch this AM, will update once it arrives and I install.

bayotte I am intersted to see how things turn out.

I just picked up a used 2013 hyper with about 6k mi on it. Very new to these bikes and looking to remedy the very poor clutch. On my bike the clutch lever is difficult to even pull. (Which I think is weird? I think I've read some people saying ti's very light/easy to pull/engage/disengage) I have tried adjusting the cable (at both points of adjustment) but the lever itself is very very stiff to pull in. Is this normal? Should I think about replacing the cable? This is without the bike running.

While riding though I am having the same problems as aforementioned in this thread: no "feather" action on takeoff and "all or none" engage/disengage. The clutch is very unpredictable to say the least. Should I think about a cable swap or maybe the oil? I tried to push the lever on the side of clutch case (what the cable attaches to) and it wouldn't budge. I could only move it by squeezing the clutch lever and like I've said, it's very hard to pull.

Your thoughts?

TSB stands for 'technical service bulletin' it's like a recall or manufacturer fix

This one: 15-003, pertains to a throttle body replacement I believe? At least that's what it sounds like zippy49's post was alluding to.

It's a gnats-ass clutch. I remember my first couple rides. If you get into that "clutch-throttle-clutch-throttle" sine wave, it will buck like a rodeo bull. Not really all or nothing, just have to get a feel for preferred delivery from a stop. I jumped on mine after not riding for 8 months and had no issues. It's not a clutch for your grandma, but once it's moving, it's tits.

Note: It should not be difficult to pull. We're discussing sensitivity regarding engagement. The demo I rode and my current Strada had/ have a balanced, normal pull tension.

what do you mean by "gnats-ass"? Like the engage point is a small window?

And by all or nothing I meant it's engaged or it's disengaged. There's no in-between at the engage point.

Mine is far from light and anything but 'tits'. I have a wr450 that's pretty easy to pull and the clutch from my zx6r is super light comparatively. On my bike it's not like it's just a stiff clutch its like it doesn't slide easily or smoothly, idk.

Any tips for troubleshooting a tight cable pull?
