Insurance Doubling

Stradista's,

Got a problem. Just received a renewal quote on my annual insurance premium. It doubled, from ~$330 to $650. The agent said they had insufficient data on the bike the previous year and some other blah, blah, blah.

So, this was my surprise after one year with the bike. Anybody else experience this?

Oh, it was the company with the talking Lizard, cheapest reputable company I found at the time. Could use some leads on $300-400 range policy holders that service the south east US.

The insurance cost in Mexico is about 8% of the bike price. At the current exchange rate the bike is a little over 16,000 uds, so we pay about 1,300 dollars for the insurance.

Bummer. The US insurance market is still a somewhat free market driven commodity. There is no set rate. Any company can offer cheaper rates to build a customer base, though you could be gambling when you file a claim.

Seriously, a lot of members in the US quoted mid $300's when we started taking delivery a year back. Any of you guys getting the same treatment, and, if not, who's your carrier?

$1200/year up here in Onterrible, so little to no sympathy for you. Some insurance companies view all Ducs as super sports, and apply a 300% surcharge.

All that for 8 months of good riding.

I get a good rate through AAA. I also have my house and car on the policy.

I have USAA, probably the best out there, but they don't insure bikes. They push you to Progressive, which gave me an obscene quote last year.

Haven't tried AAA.

I hear you. I moved to Quebec, and even with the higher cost of registration [close to 500], I am saving over 1000 bucks on insurance and registration.

Thank god in Quebec they differentiate between rockets and motards. If I were registering a Panigale, I would add at least another 500 just for public liability.

It looks like those $650 USD is a bargain compare to what we all pay outside the US.
