I Ride: '13 Hyperstrada, '06 DR650, 2017 KTM 690 Duke
Interesting off shoot into the Punk scene! I saw, in person, a few of the bands listed! But I was out of country for most of Punk era ... didn't show up until
1979 ... and few years later .. it was gone.

Far as bikes go ... got into bikes at age 12 or 13? Old Vespa 150 then Honda 50 to start. Got inspired at some point, bought a used Bultaco Pursang (race bike). It mostly blew up or broke, lots of DNF's. When it ran, raced desert, flat track and motocross .. till I went broke. (quickly!)

Got old Yam 250 stroke twin beater from older brother, early version from 1963. Then wrangled old Triumph TR-6 for Desert racing. Fun but dangerous. Then all ended for a while.

Back to a Honda 50 step through for school. Then traveling, no many bikes for about 5 years. Came home for a short time, bought '75 Honda 400-4. (textile Import business from S America provided some cash), then back South to Antarctica two years and Argentina.

Once working more steady (in US, about 1980) bought new Honda Nitehawk 700S, then bought a pristine Bonneville Special and next year (1985) the first ever Ninja 600R. (see pics below from film prints) The Top Gun Ninja 900 came one year previous to my 600R.

Then came '67 BSA 650 Lightning, Husky XC250 dirt bike, '87 Honda XL600R, WR250 (new 2 stroke race bike)

At this point I started racing ... again! (at age 39) AMA Enduro on the new Yamaha. Took about 3 seasons to go from C rider to B rider. Did a few more years and that was it ... approaching 50, hung up racing.

Still do dual sport today at 70 years of age.

You wanna learn how to ride a motorcycle? Compete in AMA Enduro a few seasons.

Started writing for City Bike magazine 1995. Got A LOT of test bikes, quite a new bike intros. 15 years of that.
Lots of bikes have come and gone since:

'81 R100RS, '82 R800GS, '84 Moto Guzzi 850 Le Mans, '87 Ninja 750, '92 TDM 850 Yamaha, '97 Ninja 600R, '95 Triumph Tiger 900, '99 Triumph Tiger 900 (bought in UK).

I regret selling my Bonneville Special and my Guzzi Le Mans.

But have slowed down motorcycle Merry-Go-Round last 10 years. Mostly riding my DR650 Suzuki dual sport into Mexico and beyond. Had a Vstrom 1000 for 90K miles (a press bike bought from Suzuki Corporate), Triumph Tiger 1050, WR250F dirt bike. All sold save Suzuki '06 DR650.

Then, 1.5 years back got the Hyperstrada, last year bought a near new KTM
690 Duke (now sold!) The Hyper is one of most fun bikes I've ridden. But it's warranty is nearly up so it must go!

A few pics:

'85 Ninja 600r, '79 Bonneville Special,
Late 1985. My pics don't go back to much further or on lost slides.

'67 BSA 650 Lightning (a dream bike from my youth I would never afford)

Riding to Baja from San Fran ... then 1400 miles of dirt and ride home. This trip the XL's Stator failed ... but right at the border! I pushed her across to waiting Van.

'86 Husqvarna 250XC, My first "modern" dirt bike. It beat me to death but made me much stronger.

'89 Yamaha WR250 ... This replaced my "old" Husky, first Yamaha race bike. It did GREAT ... 1000% better than the Husky. (me? not so much!)

1990 something Ninja 600R

Yam TDM 850. Dealers giving them away in '93. A nightmare bike.

'97 Honda VTR1000 first year of this (and another) nightmare bike. Great engine, very dangerous handling. I had major accident on this bike, barely survived.

In '98 I got this new KLR650 Press loaner and rode it to Mexico. Baja, Copper Canyon, down to Puerto Vallarta and home. 6 weeks, 6500 miles. I hated that KLR but it never broke down! This my first real "Adventure" ride ... in a few years hordes from ADV Rider would flock to Copper Canyon and claim they discovered it! I've was there once in the 70's ... been 4 times since.

'95 Triumph Tiger ... first year of "new" Triumph's into USA. Great handling bike with some serious mechanical issues.

My beloved 2000 VFR800. But at this point I was headed towards more comfortable ADV bikes ... but a bike everyone should own at some point.

Yet another amazing bike. 2001 KTM 640 Duke ll. More versatile than the '17 I just sold! (but not as fast!)

2001 DRZ400E, a wonderful Desert and single track bike. Great in Baja too.

Begin my Vstrom era! First year (2002) DL1000. Press bike bought from Suzuki. 90K miles done, 3 Baja/Mexico rides, plus Canada and about 6 US states at least.
Not ONE issue. NO problems. I did replace clutch basket to improve "feel".

'99 Tiger I bought in UK, toured around 6 weeks. Left in France, returned a year later toured some more, sold off the Tiger. flawless.

2007 WR250F. Took some effort to get it tuned ... then pretty good but not great in deep sand, no match for modern KTM or Huskies.

More later ... so far I've posted mostly my own bikes. I've quite a few test bikes I loved that we got for extended "long term" testing.
