I Ride: '13 White Hyperstrada
Talking Hyperstrada -- Netherlands

Hello everyone,

I purchased a 2013 white Hyperstrada 821 about a a year ago and ride it around The Netherlands. I've been on this forum quite often, always as a lurker only, mainly due to the great tips and tricks for some of the little technical gremlins etc. I must say there is a wealth of information on here and recently I decided to sign up so I could share as well.

I've been riding for a little over a decade now and on lots of different bikes, from small single cylinder bikes to large Japanese 4 cylinder jobs. About a year ago I rented an 1100 Hypermotard for a weekend and instantly decided this was the type of riding that suited me. Hence the purchase of the HS shortly afterwards.

Never cared much for tinkering with bikes as I was always just focused on riding them but for some reason I find myself drawn to making the Hyper just right for me. Holland (depsite a current heat wave) only has good riding a few months of the year so I'll spend the rest of the time making some modifications. Changes are currently mainly cosmetic (blacked-out indicators, bits of matte twill carbon etc.) but I'm enjoying that part of Ducati ownership as well.

Quick question; I'm considering mounting the official heated grips. Will that also take care of the (occasional) issue of the throttle sensor not being read correctly?

Looking forward to reading and learning more here. Anyone want more details, PM me!

James,

Congrats on buying not only the best looking, but fastest color option.

The common TPS issue was addressed via software and, later, TPS replacement. I have a 2013 and have not experienced any issues since both of the recalls were done couple years ago.

Adding the grips would replace the TPS, but it's probably not necessary to go that far. As Gatdammit said there's a recall that should cover replacement for free, but I don't know the details of that stuff in Europe.

the throttle tube is replaced as part of the TPS recall. adding the grips won't change anything with the TPS. I don't know if the OEM grip comes on and off the throttle tube easily or not, but with the aftermarket set I used, I had to epoxy the heated grip to the throttle tube.

this meant more work for the dealer because they had to swap the original throttle tube over with the new TPS sensor unit in order to keep my heated grip.

FYI.

FYI - there was no official recall - you have to have the TCU directly checked by the dealer.

Thanks for all the good advice. Iíll have a chat with the dealer and see what they can do!
Anyone know how you control the heated grips by the way? Is there a control or switch included on the handlebars? Anyway wonít be needed for a few months due to this heat wave!

Iíll update once sorted

heated grips are controlled by pressing the start button while engine is running. the heated grip feature has to be activated by the dealer (they usually don't charge for that if they are doing other work on the bike already, but don't hold me to that).

My heated grips were $20 for the dealer to enable. The other local dealer wanted $50.
