Denver - Telluride - Silverton - Paonia - Aspen - Breck - Denver

Long ride last weekend. 900 miles. Beautiful.

I hit Kenosha Pass, The Million Dollar Highway, McLure Pass, Independance Pass, Loveland Pass. The road from the Western end of Gunnison Reservoir to Paonia was the highlight. Smooth, curvy and no one else in sight.

Also hit a few "4x4" roads. Taking this bike off-road was a horrible idea. It's completely incapable on anything more than gravel and minor bumps.

I buried the ass end on the road up to Mt. Sneffles trailhead. (before it gets to the "rough" 4x4 part. Fucked up the rear wheel real good. Gearing is too tall, power-band comes on at too high of RPMS and the bike is way to heavy for any sporty trail riding. Just kept stalling on me when trying to get the wheel to spin. At 400 lbs + gear it's a real bitch to pick up and move on a rock slope too.

You guys who ride "off road" - are you riding anything more than tame forest roads or what? I wouldn't dream of taking this bike most places I would trust my truck to get to. It's not built for it at all.

BTW I am rocking Pirelli MT60s which seem just like road tires made to look like dirt tires for posers who want to ride a "scrambler" around town and to the mall. Though they do seem to do well on pavement but not any better off road than the scorpion trails.

Sounds like a great trip. 550 is my favorite road but I don't get over there very often. Mine is not really for off road but I am tuned in to see what others say.
