When I've cleaned mine it's not been that contaminated to worry about anything, but it did need cleaning. On earlier engines it was a good sign to see if the coating on the rockers was coming off as you'd see small shiny bright flakes.
I change my oil every 4500miles and check the mesh filter every 9k. I've heard of excessive sealant use, like three bond blocking the mesh filter. Didn't the op say he'd done the clutch upgrade?

Thank you Mentalist. I book marked it. Gotta wait for my check to come and also tear open that motor to see what else is messed up

Since my first Ducati in 2000, I’ve always checked the strainer at every oil change, and that was back when the recommended intervals were much more often. It only takes a couple more minutes while you’re in there. It’s crazy enough that Ducati now recommends the oil changes at 15000 kms, but to recommend only checking that filter every other change is mind blowing.

So my oil plugs that sit between crankcase and piston jug were completely blocked off. No oil was able to get to the heads. That washer that I found broken still don't know where it come from our where other half currently is. I'm guessing that happenes first and broke strainer allowing gunk to clog my lines. Will continue tearing into crankcase and post more later.

I believe the washer came from behind the magneto. There is no washer where the parts fiche calls for one. I will order the washer and compare it to my mystery piece and then reassemble. Question though, both crank bearings have what feels like play to them. Are these suppose to be this way or are they shot? They have like twist to them almost. Are they a special bearing?

I would think you'd want the washer there to deal with some of the thrust loading.

Crank bearings usually have some wiggle but what you DON'T want is radial play. That would mean they are shot. Also any roughness or clunking would be bad.

All internals look good and the piston bores still have the crosshatch on them. Think I'm good to button her back up and ride another 60k or should I replace the crank bearings? I've always changed oil at around 4-6k and the oil clogs did not affect anything but the top ends it seems. Crank bearings are very pricey or I would not even ask I'd just replace. Just looking for some group opinion. And thanks for info on the washer not being there and the radial play thing
